Martha Stewart is a Great Resource for Decorating TIps

Keeping the bathroom clean can be a challenge for homeowners, especially when used by multiple people. Luckily, there are online articles and magazines that can give homeowners great advice for keeping the bathroom clean. The Martha Stewart website, for example offers some great tips for keeping the bathroom clean and green. I’m going to highlight a few of these tips for homeowners. I recommend trying some or all of these tips to get a cleaner bathroom. The first tip is to clean up after every shower. Although this seems like common sense, many people ignore to do so. Keep the exhaust fan running in the bathroom to cut down on moisture levels. This will help limit the amount of mildew that forms inside the room. Try not to use oily bath and shower products. These products tend to form bathtub and shower rings. If you must use these products, clean with warm water and cleanser after use. Martha Stewart’s website advices to stay away from using PVC shower curtains. PVC is a type of plastic that may release hormone disrupting particles into the air. Use non-vinyl curtains if you can. Another tip is to use natural and homemade air fresheners instead of store bought ones that are filled with chemicals. Take active steps to go green inside your bathroom. While at the store choose green cleaning products made from natural substances. Read more from the Martha Stewart website and try these quick and easy tips to get instant results in your bathroom today!

Choosing the Right Bathroom Furniture Supplies

There are many options when it comes to furniture for your bathroom.  Some common bathroom furniture includes bathroom vanity sinks, drawers, mirrors, and cabinets among others.  This doesn’t include all the accessories you could add such as mirrors, towel hangers, shower panels, and lighting.  As you can see the possibilities are endless when it comes to picking and choosing bathroom furniture supplies.

Several steps must be taken before finding the right bathroom furniture supplies that fit your style.  The mission becomes what is the best fit for your situation.  Keep in mind the size of the bathroom before trying to find the right type of furniture.  For example, a larger bathroom vanity (such as a double) would probably not go well in a smaller bathroom.  It is also important to keep in mind who will be using the bathroom area.  If it is designed for multiple users of the family, then a double vanity sink and cabinet would be more appropriate.

You could choose to decorate the bathroom using furniture and accessories that fit their own unique theme, or you could base it off of how the rest of the house is styled.  For example, if most of your house is decorated in a traditional style, an antique granite bathroom vanity may want to be included.  If you are going for a more contemporary look, you could install a more modern looking bathroom vanity with made out of metal with a sleek chrome finish.

No matter what style of bathroom furniture supplies you choose, it should be a fun process that meets, and hopefully exceeds, your expectations when finished.

Bathroom Decorating Tips

Coordinating your bathroom furniture when you remodel is not always an easy task. There are many things to take into consideration. First of all, the size of the space is the first big hurdle to get over, and it will be the final element that rules over every decision. You can’t expect to fit in a tub or a toilet that’s too big. Measuring your space and figuring out what dimensions will work in the space is the key first step to any redecorating project. Sometimes the shape can be an issue as well, with odd wall angles and alcoves. Custom fitted fixtures can sometimes get around these. After this, it’s more fun because you get to decide on what sort of style you want your bathroom furniture to be in. Maybe you’ll choose a traditional look or charge ahead with a modern style. The best way to make sure that any style is uniform throughout the space is to try and find furniture sets. Often, bathtubs, toilets, and vanities come together, so you can rest easy knowing that you’ll already be coordinated. They also come in a variety of colors so you’ll be able to fit your fixtures to the type of ambience you want.

That brings us to finding a focal point within your new bathroom. By default, vanities tend to be the center focus because of their functionality. There are all sorts of styles with the option of multiple sinks for convenience. Also, vanity mirrors are very important, because they reflect the whole of the room. We are drawn to mirrors since they let us see our appearance, so you’ll want to select one that works well with your space. You’ll be looking at it a lot. There are a variety of different kinds of vanity mirrors. There’s the typical medicine cabinet type which is a great way to add storage to a limited space. But they don’t have to be the bulky metal boxes they once were. These days, cabinets can be made of wood with mirrors that open in sections or once door, depending on what you prefer. They don’t even need to have unsightly handles or pulls, making them very sleek and discreet. There are also flat mirrors that lay flush against the way for a very elegant look. Some mirrors even come with lighting as part of them, mostly the cabinet type models.

If your bathroom is lacking a closet and you have the extra space, why not add linen cabinets for towels and a touch of style. Though there are many things to consider when considering a storage unit like a cabinet. Figure out what exactly you will need to store. If it’s mostly small items, then a medicine cabinet will suffice. But if there are many towels and other larger items, and if you have the space for it, then a linen cabinet is the answer. They come in many styles, just as vanities and other fixtures do. You may want solid doors to hide clutter and give a modern look. Or you may want to go with glass doors for a bit of sophistication. Glass panel doors can also have beautiful engravings or textures. Frosted glass is a nice compromise of chic style and privacy. Linen cabinets also have different finishes and are made of different materials, so you can match them to your vanity as well, really tying in all the elements in the space. Not only will you have the storage space you need, but you will have another piece that establishes your theme. However, if the space is too tight it will only make life difficult. There are all kinds of shelving options, such as floating wall shelves or over the toilet units that are still nice to look at while being functional.

The critical thing to keep in mind is to make sure everything matches. The bathroom, generally, is a smaller space you’ll be frequently visiting, and there’s nothing worse than putting in all that hard work and ended up with an awkward mash up of styles and colors. It will be more noticeable and there will be nothing you can do to hide it. Try to design around only one style or theme. This will prevent you from getting too mismatched and will only add ease to your bathroom remodeling process. Rather than being limited, you will find a certain freedom once you determine this and your central focus instead of heading in blindly.

History of the the Bath from Roman Times

The history of the bathroom is probably an area that you haven’t done a lot of personal research. I was required to do a little research on the origin of baths and was decently surprised with how far back the history goes. When you think about the bath tub, you just see it as a necessary way to clean oneself. After doing some research about the origin of baths, it turns out the bath has developed and changed over time. The way the Romans used and defined the bathing experience was very interesting. Going back to the Roman civilization, they had facilities that were built with bathing being the primary purpose. These bath houses were used by the public to not only bathe, but also to socialize. The bath houses got their water from local rivers and streams with some getting their water source from nearby aqueducts. A wood fire would be used to heat the water before being moved into the bathing rooms. One of the main features of these bathing houses was the atrium area. It was in the atrium where men would exercise and lift weights. The women had their bath house in a separate, adjoining chamber of the bath house. If you ever get a chance to travel to Europe, there are still some remains of the original bath houses found throughout the continent. Most are in varying degrees of conservation, but it’s still interesting to see this part of history and how far the bath has come over time.

Create a Unique Looking Bathroom

The world of vanities is becoming vaster through the years. Before there were only bulky cabinet sinks or stand sinks in not many choices. Now there are all kinds of options for bathrooms, making it possible to create a truly unique look that will blend in with any type of home design theme that is already in place. With so many different styles of vanities, it can be a bit of a daunting process to find the one that will fit perfectly into an already existing space. There are so many things to think about when buying a vanity. Do you want a single or double vanity? Custom made or pre-fabricated? Mission style or Victorian style? And what sorts of lights, stools, or other accessories do you want to match with it? Let’s take a walkthrough of some basics to help sort through the vast world of vanities.

The type of sink and how many is usually a good first step to take in decided what sort of vanity to purchase. Sink stand vanities are perfect for half bathrooms, as they are usually small spaces. A stand is simple and classic, and will also fit into tight spaces while still being able to hold soap and hand lotion, everything you need for your visitors. Single sink vanities are good for guest bathrooms or children’s bathrooms. They have a countertop where you can put all the kids’ toothbrushes and mouthwashes, and yet will still look nice. They are also much cheaper than double sink vanities, which makes it a good choice for the second bathroom. Double vanity sinks, however, have come into style in the past few years as the choice for the master bath, perfect for couples. With two sinks, it is easier for both spouses to get ready and get out the door in the morning. They also come in a variety of styles, from modern to traditional, and some as just floating countertops or with a cabinet underneath. If you have a large amount of space, the double vanity sinks might be a good fit.

Mission style vanities are a throwback to classic American craftsmanship. If you want a rustic and more simplistic look, it may be the option for you. Strong and sturdy, they come in a variety of different wood finishes with the option of different countertops, like marble or granite. It’s a more hefty vanity, being based on function, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t beautiful as well. There is also the Victorian style, which generally feature more ornamentation and curves. They are also more decorative than Mission style vanities, and have a more antique feel about them. There is always the option to put a taste of the old world in your home with the Tuscan style, based off of Italian furniture and décor. Accents of copper or iron are what make these pieces stand apart, along with being more rustic in nature. They are warm colored pieces as well, so you may be more limited in color variety. Then there is the Modern style, which is very cutting edge and straight cut. With options like floating sinks and glass countertops, the vanity can end up looking very futuristic and cool.

If there isn’t a particular style that will work or the space is an odd shape or size, custom made vanities are the way to go. They’re much more expensive than pre-fabricated of course, but they are also a worthwhile investment for the bathroom and can be very high quality. There is also the bonus of getting exactly what you envision for your space. With Custom made vanities, you can even mix styles or features that wouldn’t be available normally. With options like putting a tall cabinet between vanity spaces or corner counters, there’s no limit to what can be done, and the space can end up looking very individualistic and beautiful.

The important thing to remember is that the vanity is a centerpiece in any bathroom, so don’t shy away from the one that is right for you just because of a price tag. With proper budgeting and organization, it is possible to get the vanity of your dreams. Shop around and compare prices. Local home improvement stores general have lower prices, but smaller kitchen and bathroom specialists may have more options or be more flexible with individual needs. Overall, choosing a vanity should be a fun and exciting process as a way to reinvent your bathroom, and is sometimes just what the space needs.

Buying Bathroom Furniture Online

With online shopping and the e-commerce industry continuing to grow, the bathroom furniture market is just another industry that is seeing growth. With goods such as furniture, one may think that ordering online isn’t the best method for making a purchase.  Furniture is oftentimes delicate and people may want to see the furniture firsthand in a brick and mortar store before making a purchase.  One of the things that you learn about bathroom furniture is that the size of the furniture as it relates to the overall area of the bathroom is one of the most important factors in buying a piece of bathroom furniture so the ability to see the dimensions right in front of them, may stray consumers away from ordering online.  While I understand these people, I personally have no problem with ordering bathroom furniture online.

I recently purchased a bathroom vanity from an online dealer and was very satisfied with the condition it arrived in.  If the consumer does all the required research and do what they can to learn about bathroom furniture before they buy, the results should be the same.  Of course, one does have to take into account the delivery process to your door.  If the bathroom furniture does come damaged, most online vendors will replace the broken pieces and have excellent customer service representatives, willing to work with you and your situation.  This even includes if you weren’t satisfied with the product.  One of my personal favorite things about ordering bathroom furniture online is the ability to customize it myself.  I was able to alter any specifications or colors right there through the website and add it to my shopping cart.  Technology has really come a long way.

Make Your Bathroom Look Larger

Decorating a bathroom is a fun and exciting process, especially for new homeowners.  After reading several articles about bathroom décor, I was intrigued and wanted to write a little about bathroom furnishings and in particular taking a small bathroom and making it look bigger.  Oftentimes, the bathroom can appear to be small and cramped.  As it is a room that you will be spending some time in, there are options to make it look and feel larger for your ease and the ease of your guests.  One of the first tips and one that makes the most sense is to eliminate any unneeded clutter in the bathroom.  Another tip is to increase the lighting in your bathroom.  Can lights or wall scones, for example, can be added to the bathroom without taking up space, but still adding light to make it appear larger.  Select a white or other neutral hue for wallpaper.  This will make the bathroom appear larger as opposed to strong colors such as black.  The same design principle can be applied with the flooring.  Choosing a light color flooring option will make the floor appear more open.  Adding mirrors also helps, as the mirrors reflect light on the open spaces of the bathroom, giving it a more open image.

Make sure to read some online articles about bathroom décor, furnishings, and setup for yourself before getting started.  Stop complaining about the claustrophobic and cramped space that is your bathroom and start using some of this information to get a bathroom you’ve always dreamed about.

How to Get your Budget Bathroom to Stand Out

Your starter home can still look and feel like home. A budget bathroom can be well-designed and functional. Even though a small budget may not allow for a steam shower, top of the line fixtures, and marble countertops, a budget bathroom can still be a stylish space.

If it is cost impossible to replace existing fixtures and furniture be creative with revamping. Start with the cabinets because they are a necessary bathroom storage item. Paint is the best-friend of a budget bathroom. Old cabinets look brand-new with a fresh coat of paint, and it is easy enough to do yourself. Keep in mind paint can also be used on the walls and ceiling to transform your budget bathroom. For the more experienced, faux-finishes are a luxurious looking addition to a budget bathroom.

Another best friend for a budget bathroom is accessories. An ugly shower or bath can be concealed with an elegant shower curtain, and family photos or prints add decoration to your space. This not only decorates your budget bathroom, but it adds a personal touch to your space.

Most importantly, plan before you begin to remodel a budget bathroom. The planning stage is often overlooked, but is a major party in creating your ideal bathroom on a budget. You should identify what it is that you would like to improve when it comes to your current bathroom. Brainstorming ideas is a great way to get your thoughts out. Think of what is most important for your space and create a budget. And if you don’t think your starter home will be home for very long, make the purchases for your budget bathroom items that can easily be moved into another space.
